CM Punk to Undergo Surgery After Injury

CM Punk’s run as AEW world champion has hit an early bump in the road.

Punk, who became champion just five days ago, announced on Friday night's episode of Rampage that he will require surgery to repair an injury.

The 43-year-old is not relinquishing the AEW world championship, but an interim champion will be crowned in his absence.

Punk described the injury as a broken wheel. He promised to return even bigger and faster than before, and hungrier than ever before.

He told the fans he had both good and bad news for them.

The bad news is that I'm injured and need surgery. A couple of things are broken, the biggest one being my heart because I love nothing more than performing for all of you.

Unfortunately, due to the injury, I won't be able to go on my planned run.
